Chongqing is a city in Sichuan, China, and has been briefly the capital of China during WWII. It’s a city built on hills which gives it a totally different feeling as for example Beijing. I had to opportunity to visit Chongqing, after my business trip to Beijing. I stayed at the Intercontinental Chongqing which is located at a prime location in the city center. Chongqing was my base to explore the Dazu Rock Carvings and Wulong Karst System. I’ll share with you my experience at this luxury business & leisure hotel.
The Intercontinental Chongqing is located at a prime location downtown in the Yuzhong District. It’s situated between the famous Jialing and Yangtze Rivers and has spectacular views on them. Within walking distance is the Liberation Tower and the most famous shopping district of Chongqing. The Intercontinental Chongqing is a landmark building with 38 floors. I arrived from the airport in just half an hour and was quickly checked-in by the friendly staff. The lobby is spacious and decorated with marbles. My room was located on the higher floors and had a magnificent view as you can see in the photo below. The location is just perfect for leisure and business and that was the main reason I stayed there. With the friendly staff my stay became a memorable one and I would certainly choose the Intercontinental Chongqing again if I’m in the area. Much more to explore!
The rooms at Intercontinental Chongqing
If you follow my travels you probably know I’m Spire Ambassador member of the IHG Rewards Club. This, in general, gives me always an upgrade to a nice suite. At the Intercontinental Chongqing, I was upgraded to a huge suite. The living room with dining table, sofas and a large desk was one of the bigger ones I ever had. The bedroom was connected by a small corridor with access to the bathroom with huge bath and separate rainforest shower. I love rainforest showers as they are so relaxing and normally I don’t have time to use the bath. The bedroom had another work desk and a comfortable king-size bed. From my room at the 29th floor had I had a beautiful view on downtown Chongqing with the rivers congregating at a distance. A perfect suite for my four night stay where I could do some work and relax.
Facilities at Intercontinental Chongqing
The Intercontinental Chongqing has an indoor swimming pool just next to the gym. Perfect to cool down or to do some exercise. The SPA is located on the same floor and offers quality treatments. The concierge knows where to go and I thank Mr. Huang for his assistance in arranging a car for my trips to Dazu and Wulong. He and his colleagues are there 24 hours a day to assist you with whatever you require. The Intercontinental Chongqing is a primary business hotel and offers a range of facilities for the business traveler. Don’t let this scare you as it’s a perfect hotel for leisure too: I would choose it (again) incuding travels with family! They would love the pool!
Dining & Drinking at Intercontinental Chongqing
At the Intercontinental Chongqing you have two options for dinner: The Chinese Sichuan restaurant or the all-day dining restaurant which offers in the evening a delicious Asian & Western buffet. I love (spicy) Sichuan food so guess where I had dinner each night? There are many restaurants in the vicinity but as I arrived late back each day I had dinner at the Chinese restaurant. The chef prepares delicious dishes and I even had the opportunity to try a brand-new dish on the menu. On the 37th floor is the Club Lounge of the Intercontinental Chongqing which offers a private atmosphere to have breakfast, a coffee and afternoon cocktails and finger food. I must say that the offer of food during the evening cocktails is very extensive compared to other hotels I have stayed at. As I must work during my travels this is the perfect place to do this as I don’t like sitting all by myself in my hotel room all day. The lobby bar on the ground floor is a great place to enjoy a drink or a small snack. The Intercontinental Chongqing offers enough dining options and if these are not enough there are plenty nearby.
If you plan to visit Chongqing to explore this city full of history, then I recommend to stay at the Intercontinental Chongqing. It’s also the perfect place from where to explore Dazu Rock Carvings and the Wulong Karst Landscape. The hotel offers a gym, indoor swimming pool and a spa, two restaurants, a bar and club lounge. The concierge will make your stay enjoyable. I loved my suite and I had an enjoyable time. I’m sure you will enjoy the Intercontinental Chongqing too which is located at one of the best locations in the city.
If you would like to know what you can do in and around Chongqing then see one of these options: day trips from Chongqing or you could fly for two days to Jiuzhaigou & Huanglong or visit other places in Sichuan provice.
