Akyra Manor Hotel Chiang Mai was my home for 4 nights when I was in Chiang Mai during my 3-week Thailand road trip. My wife and kids travelled with me. Akyra Manor Hotel is a 5-star luxury hotel located downtown Chiang Mai and member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. I had an awesome and memorable stay with my family and I’ll share my experiences with you in this review of Akyra Manor Hotel Chiang Mai. Before reading have a look at the following video impression I made during my stay.
The hotel
Akyra Manor Chiang Mai is a multistory modern building in Su Thep neighborhood, an upcoming area in Chiang Mai. It really stands out because of its modern chic look and large wooden frames on the grey exterior. I did a Thailand road trip by car so being able to park securely at the hotel was important for me. When I arrived, the staff unloaded the car and made sure my luggage was taken to my room while I did the check in. I settled in my room in no time – I was so tired after a long flight. The staff was very attentive and personal throughout my stay; something I like!
The lobby doubles as restaurant and breakfast is served there too. Styled gold finish trees with lights on the top of the branches reach to the ceiling. These give the lobby a cozy feeling and separate the tables for privacy. Main colors throughout the hotel are white and black but it feels warm due to wood details and the light. Common areas but also the rooms are decorated with lots of art pieces. A style I personally really enjoy.
As I mentioned the staff was attentive but they also know the area. They helped me plan my few days in Chiang Mai so that I would be able to get the most out of my time. If you plan to visit an Elephant Sanctuary (I didn’t as I visited one in Chiang Rai) make sure to take the tour Akyra Manor offers. You will be sure it’s a sanctuary where elephants aren’t mistreated. Akyra Manor Hotel also offers various other day trips in case you don’t have a car yourself. I thank the staff as they helped making my stay and that of my family a memorable one.
The rooms at Akyra Manor Hotel Chiang Mai
Akyra Manor Hotel Chiang Mai is an all-suite hotel which means big rooms. They have suites of 60 sq. meters and of 100 sq. meters. I booked the larger version as it has a huge living room where the couch was turned into a bed and a roll-away bed added for one of the kids too. The smaller rooms miss that part of the room and are therefore too small for 4 people. Everything else is the same! Did I mention the large balcony which is the perfect place to sip a Thai craft beer!

When my daughter entered the room, she screamed “Wow daddy look at that bathtub”. Look the photo and you’ll say the same. A huge outdoor bathtub separates the master bedroom from the bathroom and living room. It probably fits 4 people if you squeeze just a bit and each room at the Akyra Manor Hotel has one. The girls loved it the most as I personally prefer a nice rainforest shower which was also present in the bathroom. The bathroom is stocked with plenty of high quality amenities which are replenished daily.
The bedroom is large and has a huge flat screen TV to stream your favorite series from Netflix. The bed is large and so comfortable! It’s not a business hotel but I would choose it for a business trip too as it has enough workspace in the room. A must for me even on leisure trips. Black, white and wood are the colors throughout the room. The light combined with the leather and wooden materials give the room a warm feeling. I really felt at home in my room at the Akyra Manor Hotel Chiang Mai as it’s a style I enjoy.
Facilities at Akyra Manor Hotel Chiang Mai
Let’s first go to the top floor of the Akyra Manor Hotel Chiang Mai. I will now quote both of my kids: “Dad; this is the most awesome rooftop pool we have been at”. Big points for me! I’m sure you agree if you see this photo.
The rooftop pool of the Akyra Manor Hotel is a great place to relax. It gives a 180 degree view over Chiang Mai and towards Doi Suthep mountain. The gym is in the basement and rather small but this isn’t a problem as the hotel is small too. I checked twice before going on an excursion and it wasn’t occupied. Akyra Manor Hotel Chiang Mai doesn’t have a spa but there are plenty (quality) spas within walking distance.
In case you don’t have your own car in Thailand make sure to check with the concierge and arrange your daily excursions. This way you are sure to be well cared for and see all the must-see spots around Chiang Mai. Do ask to go to the Sticky Waterfall too; it was one of the best activities I did during the 3-week Thailand road trip.
Dining & Drinking at Akyra Manor Hotel Chiang Mai
Italics is the name of the restaurant located in the lobby of the Akyra Manor Hotel. It serves innovative Italian dishes and after having dinner I can say their food is amazing. Do make a reservation as it isn’t just famous among hotel guest but also throughout Chiang Mai. When I travel I normally want to eat local food but after several flights, yes, I wanted to fly cheap from Cairo, I needed energy. That means: steak. Their steak is delicious as is their pizza says my daughter.

The top floor doesn’t only have an amazing infinity pool but also the best roof top bar of Chiang Mai! They serve delicious cocktails and finger food. Make sure to go when it’s happy hour to get two for the price of one. After a long first night at the bar and little sleep I was eager to go to breakfast. I was expecting a huge buffet but when I arrived I saw a very small buffet and was disappointed. I judged too quick as breakfast is fully a la carte and you can choose two dishes – that’s even better! These two dishes were even for me as a hungry morning person too much. I highly recommend the “You look delicious” as it’s delicious but also for the fun of having the waitress saying that to you :). I do need to return to try their other dishes; there was too much choice. Check my Chiang Mai restaurant guide if you want to go out for dinner!
Conclusion
Chiang Mai in northern Thailand is a must visit if you do a Thailand road trip. Stay at Akyra Manor Hotel Chiang Mai for a unique experience. It’s an all-suite hotel and their rooms are very comfortable. The huge bathtub, balcony and comfortable beds are just a few things that will make your stay pleasant. Akyra Manor Hotel has the best rooftop bar and pool in Chiang Mai so that’s another reason to stay. Breakfast is fully a la carte and the quality is just amazing. If you want Italian food for a change than Italics is the place to go. I had an awesome time and my kids even more. I highly recommend Akyra Manor Hotel if you’re in Chiang Mai.
