SOLOMON ISLANDS – Heritage Park Hotel review: the luxury place to stay in Honiara

Swiimming Pool - SOLOMON ISLANDS - Heritage Park Hotel review: the luxury place to stay in Honiara

Solomon Islands is one of the lesser travelled island nations in the Pacific and has been on my radar for a long time. Recently, after a conference in Singapore, I had the luxury to travel to the Solomon Islands. I stayed at the Heritage Park Hotel in Honiara on Guadalcanal island. I love to travel of the beaten track but in the evening a luxury hotel is my preference. The Heritage Park Hotel Honiara is a modern luxury hotel and that’s why I choose to stay there. This hotel review will give you an impression of what to expect and I’m sure you will want to stay too!

The hotel

The Heritage Park Hotel Honiara is in downtown Honiara just 10 kilometers from the airport. Do keep in mind that traffic is congested, and that this trip can take between 30 minutes and an hour. When I arrived, check-in was very smooth and fast. The staff greeted me with a big smile and that’s something I noticed everywhere in the Solomon Islands. My luggage was taken care off and in no time in my room. My Solomon Islands itinerary included a night in Munda (another island) and it was no problem to store my bulky luggage at the hotel for a night.

The rooms are in several three-story buildings in a garden setting. It’s the residence of the former erstwhile British governor and two generals. The place is a very tranquil and pleasant green area. Wi-fi is available throughout the hotel and fast enough for email, web browsing but streaming Netflix doesn’t work. This is due to the fact the Solomon Islands don’t have an ocean cable connection yet. It was much faster though compared to Palau or Yap which is visited a year earlier when I also did a two-week Pacific island hopping trip. I had a great stay in the modern spacious room and the staff took good care of me during my stay.

The rooms at Heritage Park Hotel

The rooms at the Heritage Park Hotel are spread over the various buildings. I recommend having a room at the top floor of the 3rd building which has a nice ocean view. There are no elevators, but the staff will get all your luggage up and down for you. The rooms are modern and full of light with tiled floors. I really dislike carpets so a tiled or wooden floor is a big plus for me.

The furniture is made in local thatched style which together with the green wall gives the room a warm feeling. Sliding doors give access to the balcony which had an ocean view. I was just in my room to sleep and maybe another hour a day, so I just relaxed in the good working air-conditioning. The bathroom is medium sized and very well equipment including quality amenities.

A perfect comfortable luxury room on such a remote island in the pacific!

Facilities at Heritage Park Hotel

Unfortunately, on the 2nd day of my stay the pool was under maintenance. You can see it in the photo below as some tiles needed to be replaced. I still was able to enjoy it the first day and didn’t have time the other days anyway. It’s an awesome pool with pool bar and terrace where you have a beautiful view over the ocean.

The hotel further offers the usual business facilities, an extensive gym, and a tour & transfer desk. Check what kind of tours you can do in my Solomon Islands itinerary and book them through the front desk or alternatively at the Solomon Islands visitors center. A dive center is just next door and the national museum is just across the street.

Dining & Drinking at Heritage Park Hotel

Heritage Park Hotel Honiara has several options to dine or have a snack during the day. Club Xtreme is also located on the premises which is a nightclub that serves cocktails until the early hours. The Pool Side Bar is great for an afternoon snack. I recommend the spring rolls, and a cold beer at the ocean side.

The Terrace Restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast is complete, and eggs are prepared to order. My only remark is the extra payment for an espresso; this should be included at a hotel of this level. In the evening I had dinner twice at the Renaissance Restaurant. Their Asian dishes are great especially the Indian ones. Highly recommended. The other day I just had a tasty burger.

If you want something else there is a Japanese restaurant within walking distance. Do not go on the day they have just a buffet; it didn’t look good, but the a-la-carte was awesome! There are some other options nearby which I haven’t tried, just wander around or take local food along the road. I love new food experiences everywhere I go.
