BRAZIL – Intercontinental Sao Paulo; a modern central located luxury hotel

Brazil - Intercontinental Sao Paulo Hotel Review

Sao Paulo is a huge city and you want to stay in a central located hotel. The Intercontinental Sao Paulo hotel is central located and gives great luxury. What more do you want? This is exactly what I thought and I just had to check out this hotel. My experience I share with you to already enjoy the hotel while reading, and, let me know if you stayed in the comments!

The hotel

The Intercontinental Sao Paulo is a modern contemporary luxury hotel just one block away from the main street Paulista Avenue in Sao Paulo. Located in the Jardins area which is the upscale neighborhood of Sao Paulo. The old center is just a 15 minute taxi ride away where you can explore the cathedral and other sights. In the evening there are many streets and areas to go for dining which are just a short taxi ride away. I do not recommend walking large distances in Sao Paulo anyway so a taxi you should use always. The airports are located a 30-60 minute drive but in rush-hour this can be more! The concierge can help you arrange transport and advice on the time it will take. When I arrived to the hotel I was warmly welcomed and check-in was just a few minutes. The building is a narrow 20 story tall building which is very common in Sao Paulo; just a few steps from one side to the other. After the first night I was already greeted by name which is something I like if staying at a luxury hotel.

The rooms at Intercontinental Sao Paulo

The rooms at the Intercontinental Sao Paulo all have what you would expect from a luxury hotel. As a member in the IHG loyalty program I got upgraded to a nice suite with a living room, large bath room and bedroom with working desk. The colors are all light with accents of wood and red color. My back is not the best and if the bed is not good I tend to get back pain but this was not the case here; a good bed! With only about 8-10 rooms on my floor it was very quiet and everything was very sound proof. I could sleep well, work well and relax well at my room. A place which I could call home for 5 nights.

Facilities at Intercontinental Sao Paulo

The Intercontinental Sao Paulo offers a wide range of business and conference facilities which I personally did not need. They offer an extensive gym with all the equipment you can expect. The pool at the 3rd floor is nice for an hour swim but as it’s a city hotel it is not very large. A cool beer and a snack can be ordered from the pool bar. In the hot weather in Sao Paulo I love to take a quick afternoon dip in the pool. It’s refreshing!

Dining & Drinking at Intercontinental Sao Paulo

The Tarsila restaurant at the Intercontinental Sao Paulo offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. I only used it for a dinner and the quality is very good and prices affordable. Local dishes prepared with great ingredients. I love the meat! I did not use the Tarsila restaurant for breakfast as I upgraded myself with access to the executive lounge. The choice there at the buffet is a bit less but it’s quieter and all that is not there the staff will get/prepare for you. At the lobby bar they had my favorite Hendriks gin amongst a huge variety of other liquors. Make sure you also try the caipirinha!
